- עֵיל(עִי׳) עֵילָא, עֵלָא m. (עוּל) = h. עָל, height, heaven. Targ. Job 37:9 עִילָא.ע׳ מן, לע׳ מן above, over. Dan. 6:3 עֵלָּא. Targ. Y. Gen. 1:7. Targ. Gen. 22:9. Targ. Num. 1:3 (O. ed. Vien. לעֵלָּא); a. v. fr.מִלְּעֵ׳ from on high, above. Targ. Ps. 50:4. Targ. 1 Chr. 11:11; a. fr.B. Bath.45a דסלקין לע׳ ודנחתין לתתא (for) those who go up (to Palestine) and those who come down (to Babylonia). Y. ib. VI, end, 15c חדא מלע׳וכ׳ one (grave) above and one below.
